Protein Per Dollar Calculator

Compare your actual grocery items side by side. Enter each item's price, package size, and protein (per 100 g or per serving — whatever the label says), and see grams of protein per dollar and cents per 25 g of protein, ranked best value first. Your list is saved in your browser and never uploaded.

Your items

The starter items below use rough typical-price estimates, not live prices — edit them to match your store's shelf tags.

How the math works

Each item's package is converted to grams (1 oz = 28.3495 g, 1 lb = 453.592 g, 1 kg = 1000 g), giving total protein in the package: grams × (protein per 100 g ÷ 100), or servings × protein per serving. Then protein per dollar = total protein ÷ price, and cents per 25 g = price ÷ total protein × 25 × 100. We show cost per 25 g because that's roughly one meal's worth of protein, which makes small numbers easier to compare than per-gram fractions.

Why per-100 g vs per-serving labels matter

Labels in the EU, UK, and Australia state protein per 100 g, so package grams are all you need. US labels state protein per serving — then the tool needs either the number of servings in the package or the serving size in grams to work out the total. Watch out for raw vs cooked weights: nutrition panels on raw meat are per raw weight, and cooking loses water, not protein, so comparing a raw label against a cooked one skews the result.

Are the starter prices real?

No — they are editable ballpark estimates of typical supermarket prices, included only so you can see how the comparison works. Prices vary a lot by store, region, and week; type in what you actually pay. Nothing here is a live price feed, and this is a cost comparison, not nutrition advice.

Is my grocery list uploaded anywhere?

No. The page is fully client-side; your items are stored only in your browser's localStorage.
